The 4th

(just a week late)

We were a little nervous about this 4th of July, not sure it would live up to our previous years of celebrating together. Last year I was 8.5 months pregnant and we celebrated with a huge Frame family reunion. The year before was spent in our nations capitol....best ever!! Garrett and I started dating just a few days before the 4th of July, so it also has special memories associated with it because of that. It was the first time we hung out with each of our families as a couple, and it was a blast. Laren, G's little sis, had brought her boyfriend home from Rexburg for a fun holdiay weekend with the fam too....and now, 4 years later, he's our brother-in-law and they have a perfect baby boy! We would have given anything to spend our 4th with our immediate family again.....but this 4th turned out to be juuuuust perfect.

We woke up early-whirly and headed to the lake with Garrett's Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. I really don't think there's anything more fitting to do on the 4th of July than boating! On our way there, G got pulled over for going 12 over the speed limit. This was the start of many 4th of July miracles, because we didn't even get a ticket! When the cop handed us our warning, we just stared at him with dropped jaws. He laughed at us when we finally thanked him! We spent the better part of the day on the lake, wake-boarding, swimming, surfing, eating yummy food, and soaking up the sun! There are few things that make G and I happier than boating. The lake was awesome and we had a great time! And we were really glad to be able to meet up with some family for the holiday, I don't know what I would do without having some of G's extended family so close. They are the best!

cousin's rachel, jane, and kate!

i'm a liiiiittle rusty on the wake board
This was Rae's first time on a boat, so we were a liiiiiiiittle nervous. In fact, the night before, I got all panicky and decided Rae and I would sit it out. G made a good point in that, if we start sitting stuff out now, with only one (very well-behaved) baby, then our lives are quickly going to go down-hill as we have more kids and the excuses to 'sit it out' build up. So we went out hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst. This was our second 4th of July miracle.......She LOOOOVED it! Even in her gosh-awful lifejacket. She's such a champ and we had so much fun watching everyone wake-board, swimmin' and splashin', feeling the wind on our face, and staying very very hydrated! She even took both her naps! As soon as we got in the car to go home, Garrett proudly played the "I told you so" game.

nap time on the boat

okay....i guess she wasn't happy every second of the day...but almost
After boating we headed to a fun bbq with an old family friend from California. We ate watermelon, caught up, and reminisced on old times.

Even though Rae was a champ all day, we decided not to push it so we skipped out on fireworks. We came home, got cleaned up, and put our baby girl down for a goooooood night's rest. Then Garrett and I turned out all the lights, opened the blinds, and laid down on the floor by our big living room windows. We put on a patriotic pandora station and waited for the fireworks to start. Initially I was pretty bummed about missing a real firework show, but our evening turned out as perfect as can be. It was our final 4th of July miracle. Rae got a great night sleep, wasn't traumatized by her first fireworks, and we didn't have to endure the 115 degree heat. There was no where I would have rather watched fireworks than on our soft floor, in our air-conditioned living room, with my favorite boyfriend.

Even though sometime I get scared about the future of our country, I still feel so blessed to live here. It really is the best nation in the world! And we are so proud to be Americans!
